Ukrainian 🇺🇦 series in development!

A cartoon series about the life of a teenager from

the perspective of an ASD. What is it like to be

the only “normal” person among the “wierdos”?

Hi! I'm Iryna Marginai

Sosimovych (Harkavets)

I'm young, talented filmmaker

from Ukraine 🇺🇦♥️ who holds

a bachelor's degree in animation earned in 2022. With numerous awards and screenings for my student films, I'm embarking on my journey in the industry!

Currently, I am seeking moneyz and

a producer to collaborate on my incredibly ambitious TV series project!

The honors I could find. Because

I got a lot of them at a time when

I wasn't interested in the industry

and didn't value my work at all..

But now I’m on to start new ambitions project!

“Illogical Adult World” is an animated series that follows the adventures of three teenagers: Alex, a blue lion-boy; Jordan,

a devil-boy; and Casey, a shy girl in a fish suit. They venture into a bizarre universe where the rules of adult life are filled with absurdity. In this world, individuals wear masks that reflect their character, profession, or interests. Alex, who has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), begins a journey of

self-discovery and understanding of others. Communication

is already challenging without masks, but in this world,

it reaches new levels of absurdity.

1/12 Fact sheet

2/12 Main topics

Our series tackles situations that resonate with the target audience — teens and young adults. We aim to demonstrate that viewers are not alone in their struggles and validate their emotions.

Finding identity

Friendship

Inclusivity

Dealing with toxic standards

Child - parent relationship

3/12 ASD representation

Our goal is to shatter harmful stereotypes surrounding ASD. Alex won't be portrayed as a typical autistic savant, nor will

he be treated like a child solely due to his meltdowns and "unconventional" behavior.

His life will be portrayed as realistically as possible, offering a perspective in line with that of a person on the spectrum.

To achieve this, we've collaborated with experts to ensure accurate representation.

Furthermore, given that autism can manifest across family members, we'll address the crucial topic of female autism

and its diagnosis in adults.

Through this cartoon, we offer a unique viewpoint, allowing viewers to experience the world from the perspective of an individual with autism.

This topic is very important to me personally. Because I have an autistic cousin who has a special vision of life.

And by revealing the truth about an important topic that

we present in the series, the difficulty of diagnosing women,

I am undergoing sophisticated therapy to check whether

I have autism myself.

My brother and I can feel each other and have similar sensory problems. I want to show our view of life, our problems, our worries as realistically and sensually as I can.

4/12 Protagonist Alex

Alex, who is on the autism spectrum, navigates the complexities of self-discovery and empathy toward others. This struggle is formidable even without the metaphorical masks, but in this world, it becomes even more surreal. The series unveils the phenomenon of autistic masking, shedding light on the often humiliating and bewildering social interactions.

Alex is most like me and my brother. He's a dreamer, always thinking about something, which can make him inattentive to other things. However, he can concentrate on his favorite thing, like I do with animation, my brother with fish, and Alex with photography. He knows everything about cameras, has several film, digital, even analog ones. Sometimes he is at pains to describe his feelings or sensations in terms of photography. For example, when the sun makes him mad, it's obvious that "the film is lit!"

5/12 Girl in a fish suit Casey

Casey, draped in a fish costume, emanates a gentle and creative spirit. Initially shy and timid, Casey learns to overcome her insecurities and gains self-confidence. Her journey involves the challenges of fitting into society's beauty standards while embracing her unique identity.

In this world, girls who look like fish are considered beautiful. All little girls, under the influence of strict stereotypes and beauty standards, want to become like fish models since childhood. The analog of makeup here is wearing a big uncomfortable fish costume! Obviously, Casey's theme is overcoming self-doubt and dealing with toxic stereotypes.

Casey will definitely appeal to teenagers who are not yet very confident and feel insecure in society. Together with her, they will be able to find their way to self-love and confidence.

6/12 Devil boy Jordan

Jordan, with his devilish appearance and rebellious nature, defies the norms of the illogical adult world. Seeking attention as a loner, Jordan's growth revolves around finding under-standing and acceptance. He learns to strike a balance between his desire for connection and his need for personal expression, ultimately becoming the glue that binds the group together.

Jordan has a crazy personality. He will definitely appeal to the rebels in the target audience of teenagers! Having a difficult relationship with his parents, he was forced to look elsewhere for affection from an early age. He found the same support in the company of the eccentrics Alex and Casey, and he seems to have fallen in love with the last one...

7/12 Setting

The narrative unfolds within the local setting of a spring camp by a lake's edge. High school students attend this camp for a transformative "self-discovery" experience lasting two months. By the course's end, students are expected to gain insights into their characters, make decisions about their futures, and even transform their bodies in alignment with their choices.

The place is based on a real location in Vinnytsia, Ukraine! There is a strange camp in front of the lake. In general, the city is built around lakes and a river. It looks interesting, unusual and colorful. I will definitely bring it into the series because it creates an incredible atmosphere.

In this place, teachers do not care what the children do. The atmosphere of a children's camp, but with adult teenagers. Our heroes will explore the social world, get into different situations and solve problems that are important for teenagers

8/12 References

I want to bring to the Ukrainian animation industry a stylish, modern, and tongue-in-cheek show that teenagers not only in my country but also in the world definitely need. I want to be like Steven Universe, Over The Garden Wall, Midnight Gossip! And I've done my best to make this project as popular as it is.

I will continue to work on quality with all my heart!

9/12 Summary

As the series progresses, Alex, Casey, and Jordan forge deep friendships that transcend societal conventions. Together, they navigate the intricacies of adult-hood, supporting each other's quests for self-understanding, and embracing their true selves.

10/12 Stages and plans

I am currently in the pre-production stage. The project

boasts a comprehensive treatment, including a fully developed concept, chosen tone and style, and a meticulously crafted world inhabited by well-defined characters. The plot is ready for final approval, and scripting is set to commence.

Additionally, a short film based on the concept is already

in production, aiming to offer a glimpse into the themes, storytelling style, and character dynamics.

I anticipate completing the short film by mid-2024. Looking ahead, I aim to kickstart series production early in 2025 and

strive to conclude within a span of 2-3 years.

11/12 Annecy and other festivals

I was lucky enough to go with the concept of this animated series to the pitching stage of the largest animation festival in Europe, Annecy, and promote the series at the animation market MIFA!

As a young filmmaker, I was lucky enough to get there in June 2023 with the support of the USAID Competitive Economy of Ukraine program.

This year, I have planned or completed 6 trips to festivals to promote this project. In the future, I plan to continue at the same pace.

As mentioned earlier, I'm planning a short film based on the concept of illogical Adult World. I plan to make this work a festival film. With it, I will not only travel to festivals, but also submit it for screenings.

12/12 Contacts

I am very open to new experiences in the animation industry! I'm looking forward to international cooperation and hope this project touches you. You can contact me via email, Vatsap, social media. I will be glad to meet you at the festivals live!
